Graveside services for Beulah French Furlow will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Hasley Gazebo. Dr. Mark Fenn will officiate. Beulah French Furlow was born on January 6, 1917 in Drumwright, Oklahoma to Deliah Nave French and Thomas Fox French. She was the youngest of 9 children in this Scotch Irish Cherokee family. Orphaned at 5 years of age when her mother passed away the 6 surviving children, 3 boys and 3 girls were raised by their father. Beulah married the love of her life, Rex Robert Furlow, on November 28, 1940. They had one daughter, Deanna, who was born on Beulah birthday. They were married until Rex death in September of 2010 just a few months shy of their 70th wedding anniversary.Beulah and Rex moved to West Monroe in 1948 with Deanna. Beulah worked for the City of West Monroe first in the Water Department and later as Secretary to Chief Johnny Mitchell at the West Monroe Police Department. While working in the police department, Beulah created a line of dolls Bula Babies. They proved so popular that after her retirement she and Rex traveled for the next 25 years in their motor home and soon Beulah creations were all over the country. Beulah was proud of her Cherokee heritage. Her father had been an Indian Marshall in Oklahoma when it was still Indian Territory. Beulah was made an Elder in the Cherokee tribe in 2015 by then Principal Chief of the Cherokee, Bill John Baker. Her oral history is recorded and can be viewed in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the Cherokee Nation.Beulah is survived by her daughter, Deanna Bural and husband, Lynn Bural; granddaughter, Laura Fava Bowles, husband Travis Bowles, great-grand son, Trey AllenBowles, grandson, Larry Fava, niece, Cindy Harris and nephew Ruel Thomas French. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex Robert Furlow, her father, Thomas Brewer French, mother, Deliah Nave French, brothers Thomas Fox French, Walter,Paul French, Ruel Haskell French, and sisters Nina French and Mamie Harris. Two brothers and one sister died as babies, Sleeper, Floyd and Minnie (Mamie twin).Beulah was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Monroe for over 50 years.In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Shriner Hospital.
