Funeral services for Betty Jane Golden Aswell, 91, of Downsville, LA will be held at Downsville Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 2 p.m. with visitation from 12 until time of service. Services will be officiated by Rev. Trey Roberson, Rev. Robert Taylor and Michael Butler under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Home-Farmerville.
Betty was born March 27, 1932 to Cecil and Ovie Golden in Downsville. She met her Jesus on December 7, 2023 in Ruston surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong member of Downsville Baptist Church where she faithfully served in many roles, including treasurer, WMU Director, Pianist, Church Hostess, Church Secretary, tirelessly preparing meals on Wednesday night for the children and youth as well as a dedicated prayer warrior. She saw a need in the community of a ministry to provide food and clothing for people in need, thus Helping Hands Ministry was founded. She worked each week for 34 years at Helping Hands up until her death. She was active in many other areas, including serving on the Downsville Cemetery Committee and Cattleman’s Association. She was a homemaker but she also, along with her husband, ran the family cattle and poultry farm. She loved her family and loved family gatherings. She attended every event possible that her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren were involved in. Her family brought her joy and you knew she loved each member of her family deeply.
Betty is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 49 years, Robert Taylor Aswell.
