Services for Benjamin 'Benny' Franklin Owens, Sr., 75 of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 13, 2011 at Cypress Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Eubanks and Alton Braddock officiating. Burial will be at Cypress Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Mr. Owens passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lula Wagoner Owens and George Franklin Owens; and brothers, Charles and Oswald Owens. Mr. Owens was a member of Cypress Baptist Church and an active member in the community. After service in the U.S. Army, Benny started his career with the Louisiana State Police. He retired as Regional Director of Probation and Parole of North Louisiana. Mr. Owens also served as a free mason for fifty years and Justice of the Peace of Ward 9 in Ouachita Parish for twenty years. He was also local Minister of Music for several area churches. Benny also enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his five children, Debra Murphy and husband Bobby, Kathy Sills and husband Scott, Melissa Brewster and husband Jerry, Benji Owens and wife Tammi, Dawn Bateman and husband Brian, as well as brother Lamar Owens and sisters Marjorie Gard, Edna Mae McGrew, Emma Lou Bush, and Willie Lea Lovett. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Mia Tisdale, Justin Tisdale, Ryan May, Kristin Sills, Lauren Sills, Scott Sills, Chris Guidry, Ben Guidry, Shirley Owens, Buck Owens, Sarah Owens, Oliver Bateman; and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
