Services for Benjamin 'Benny' Franklin Owens, Sr., 75 of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 13, 2011 at Cypress Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Eubanks and Alton Braddock officiating. Burial will be at Cypress Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Mr. Owens passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lula Wagoner Owens and George Franklin Owens; and brothers, Charles and Oswald Owens. Mr. Owens was a member of Cypress Baptist Church and an active member in the community. After service in the U.S. Army, Benny started his career with the Louisiana State Police. He retired as Regional Director of Probation and Parole of North Louisiana. Mr. Owens also served as a free mason for fifty years and Justice of the Peace of Ward 9 in Ouachita Parish for twenty years. He was also local Minister of Music for several area churches. Benny also enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his five children, Debra Murphy and husband Bobby, Kathy Sills and husband Scott, Melissa Brewster and husband Jerry, Benji Owens and wife Tammi, Dawn Bateman and husband Brian, as well as brother Lamar Owens and sisters Marjorie Gard, Edna Mae McGrew, Emma Lou Bush, and Willie Lea Lovett. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Mia Tisdale, Justin Tisdale, Ryan May, Kristin Sills, Lauren Sills, Scott Sills, Chris Guidry, Ben Guidry, Shirley Owens, Buck Owens, Sarah Owens, Oliver Bateman; and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.

I was so saddened to hear of Benny's passing. I started first grade in 1942 with him at Cypress Elementary School. Also graduated with him in 1954 at WMHS and sang with him in the school ensemble. He came to the class reunion in April 2010 very briefly and left before I had a chance to speak to him. Little did I know, it would be the last time I would ever see him on this earth. A truly wonderful man and a great friend. May God bless his family.

I will sure miss you Uncle Benny!!! You were such a wonderful man and loved by so many. I know your in Heaven now singing and watching over all of us! My heart is heavy of your passing, but know you are resting and in a much better place. Love you!!

I was saddened greatly to read about Mr. Benny.I found out just hours after his services. I became friends with a great man,the first time I saw him. He stopped to visit with me at the firestation just up the road. The station just opened and he was the first to welcome us. my prayers are with his family , we will miss him dearly

I wa surprised to learn of Bennys death. He was always a ray of sunshine. When he would meet me he always smiled and shook my hand and always said how good it was to see me. I will miss him at our next 55 year reunion at WMHS. I know he is in charge in heaven.

It was with great sadness that I read of Benny's passing. I worked for him from 1970 to 1976 . This was the first job I had out of college. He was a really great man to work for. My thohughts and prayers are with all the family.

Benny Owens is one of the finest men I have known, and I am proud to have been a friend. His life of service has been an inspiration to me and to countless other people. His family is blessed to have a father to leave such a wonderful legacy. W.G. Beauregard, M.D.

I graduated with Benny, 1st graduating class for West Monroe High in 1954. There now is more smiling and more singing in heaven with Benny there now. Blessings and peace to his family.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I have never seen a time when Benny Owens didn't have a smile on his face. He will truly be missed in our community. My prayer is that God will give you the peace and comfort you need during this time of sorrow.

I gradutated with Benny at WMHS, class of '54. Benny was a great man and always had a smile on this face. He will be missed, but I know he has everyone in Heaven smiling.

I am so very saddened at the loss of your daddy and granddaddy. He was so special. He was a great encourager to me as a young musician and was always glad to see me and the feeling was mutual. He will always hold a very special place in my heart. I will miss him too.

I'm still in shock. i love yall so much. Benny was like a father to me..we will deeply miss "papaw bendy" as katie and tyler used to say. benny was like a ray of sunshine..always jolly. i will truly miss his big ole smile. Benny was so good to us.i love you guys.benny is standing tall today..his suffering is over, but i am going to miss him so much.yall hang in there.
