Funeral services for Baker A. Colvin will at 10 am on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at First Baptist Church of Spearsville. Officiating will be Rev Johnie Adkins and Rev James Miller. Interment will be at the Beech Grove cemetery. Mr. Colvin was a member of Beech Grove Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War where he served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp. He was an alderman and the mayor of Spearsville, and a volunteer fireman. He was the president of the Union Parish Tri-ad of Spearsville. He was an avid gardener who always grew more than he could use and would share with all of the community. He enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. He was a little league baseball coach for many years. One of his hobbies included genealogy which he published books of his ancestors and related families. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert ¨Bob and Ora Mae Colvin, a brother A. B. Colvin and a sister Irma Colvin House. Survivors include his wife of 60 years Ethelle Colvin of Spearsville, LA; daughter Beulah Mae Cox and husband Claude of Katy, TX; grandson Jay Cox and wife Rebecca of Sugar Land, TX; brother Bobby Gene Colvin and wife Lillie V of Dubach, LA; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be his nephews Larry Bush, Andy Bush, Tommy Taylor, Bill Taylor, Scott Jones, Michael Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will by his nephews Robert House, Larry House, Lloyd Dean Colvin and Stanley Colvin. The family will receive friends Wednesday August 9, 2006 from 5 to 8 pm at First Baptist Church of Spearsville, LA.
