A private family memorial service honoring the lives of Anna Claire Campbell Seymour and Edward James Seymour, Jr. was held at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Mary’s Chapel with inurnment in the Grace Episcopal Church columbarium. Father Don Smith officiated. Services were under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Monroe.
Anna Claire and Ed were married for 64 years, and both passed away in Lafayette, LA. Anna Claire passed away on April 21, 2022, and Ed passed away on May 31, 2022. They are survived by their daughters, Claire Campbell Seymour Ward and her fiancé, Robbert Page Culbertson, Louise Avonia Seymour North and her husband, Steven Henry North; son, Edward James Seymour, III and his partner, Caroline Blackman; grandchildren, Ryan Campbell Ward and his fiancee’, Anabelle Reade, Sally Kathryn Seymour, Anna Laurence North, Edward James Seymour, IV, Thaddeus Ross North, Elyse Seymour Glass; Anna’s sister, Genevieve Campbell Wagner, Ed’s brother, Prentiss M. Seymour; and numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren and dear friends.
Anna Claire was preceded in death by her parents, Avonia and E. Rupert Campbell, Sr.; and brother, E. Rupert “Bo” Campbell, Jr. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Louise Millsaps Atkins and Edward James Seymour, Sr.
They began their life here in Monroe when Ed began his law practice with Thompson and Sparks in January of 1958 and then joined his father in the insurance business the following year at Seymour Insurance Agency. He was also a Senior Account Executive of Bennett Seymour Insurance, Inc. in Monroe. Ed attended both Georgia Tucker and Neville but graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1950, with the rank of 1st Lt., Battalion Supply officer. He attended Duke University and graduated from Tulane University receiving his BBA in Business in 1954 and his Juris Doctorate degree in 1956. Ed also served his country in the Air Force from 1956-1958 with the reserve rank of Captain. He was also a member of the fraternity, Beta Theta Pi.
Ed served as President of Independent Insurance Agents of Ouachita Parish. He was a member of the 4th District Bar Association and the Louisiana Bar Association. He would also serve on the Board of Directors at First American Bank and Central Bank of Monroe and the First Federal Savings Bank in Shreveport, LA. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Catholic Hospitals of Louisiana. He proudly served as a past president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council and the Masur Museum of Art plus various other organizations.
Anna Claire graduated from Southfield School in Shreveport, LA and Byrd High School in 1956 and attended Randolph Macon Woman’s College and Louisiana State University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Anna Claire was a member of the Monroe Garden Club, Monroe Junior Charity League, Old Bridge Club Investment Club (past president), Daughters of the American Revolution, Northeast LA Arts Council, Twin City Art Foundation, Strauss Playhouse, Shreveport American Bank for Savings (board member) and charter member of Friends of the Monroe Civic Center Theater.
Ed and Anna Claire loved golf and tennis and were members of both the Bayou DeSiard Country Club of which Ed was a past president, and the Lake Bruin Golf and Country Club. Anna Claire was proud of her “hole-in-one” on number 8 Dunes Golf Course at Sandestin, Florida. Anna Claire had a passion for and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge with her friends. Anna Claire was an excellent chef and her proudest accomplishment was serving on the Cotton Country Collection Cookbook Committee. Her committee cooked and tasted every recipe included in the cookbook with Ed, swearing that two cooktops were destroyed during the testing and trial period. They both were long time members of Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, LA with Anna Claire a member of the Daughters of the King at Grace Church. They will both be missed by their family and friends and the community.
The family would like to acknowledge Michael Haley, Margaret Clark and Danita Bell for many years of love and support. We would also like to thank the Holmes family (Terry, Joyce and Jean) for their excellent care of both Mom and Dad during these last years of their life.
Memorials in Anna Claire and Ed’s name may be made to the following organizations the Food Bank of NE Louisiana, PAWS of NE Louisiana, and Hospice of Acadiana, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
