Funeral services for Alfred Lee “Shorty” Wilbanks, 93, will be held Sunday, February 27, 2011, 3:00 PM at Highland Baptist Church 1509 Arkansas Road West Monroe officiating will be Rev. Gordon “Skip” Dean. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe .Visitation will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Alfred Lee “Shorty” Wilbanks, 93, of West Monroe, LA went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, surrounded by his family and special friends. “Shorty” was the oldest member of Highland Baptist Church and had been an active deacon for 62 years. He retired from Tennessee Gas Pipeline as a chief operator and was known as an avid gardener. “Shorty” served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Laine “Boe” Fowler Wilbanks; parents, William “Bill” Davis Wilbanks and Mary Corenthia Hudson Wilbanks; brothers, Ernest, Levi , Floyd, J D and Dallas; sisters, Elmer Williamson, Ruthie Fleming and Marie Thomas. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Floyd Chaney of Kingwood, TX; grandchildren, Cinnamon Chaney of Santa Monica, CA and Sam Chaney of Shreveport, LA; sister, Elaine Ramsey and husband Billy of West Monroe; numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mike Wilbanks, Charles Thomas, Robert Howell, Robert Anderson, Scotty Gwin and Chris Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of Highland Baptist Church and members of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 4:00 PM until7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
