I have thought of Mrs. Harris often over the years, remembering what a gracious lady she was and how much she helped me when my house burned down and I had two small children to take care of. She was a credit to the library profession and will be sorely missed by those who knew her. My sympathies to her family.
Stephanie Herrmann left a message on August 31, 2010:
The Union Parish Library extends our deepest sympathy in the passing of Ms. Agnes Harris. Ms. Harris was so instrumental at establishing a legacy of literacy here in Union Parish. Her leadership in the creation of the library here will be felt for generations to come through the smiles of young children on the library to families and adults who enjoy books and programs here. We owe a debt of gratitude to her for her role in history and the impact that she has made on our future. We honor Ms. Harris and know that she will be missed, but not forgotten. We have dedicated a book in her honor and will recognize her efforts in our newsletter this month.

Our prayers are with you. Your parents were a great couple! We lived next door to them on Bienville in Monroe. We enjoyed being their neighboor. We still have the office desk that we bought from them that I use every day. Love, Bobby and Sue Rainer, Scott & Sam
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

Already an established 'legend' in Louisiana Librarianship, Mrs. Harris made me -- a young whippersnapper -- feel welcome and valued when I entered the scene in 1976. She had a lot of grace about her. Smart, hard-working, resourceful, courageous, tireless --- I don't have enough descriptors. She was a terrific librarian, a wonderful lady, and someone I was pleased to consider a friend. She will be greatly missed. Jeff Salter
