Funeral services for Windle Reed Gorden will be held at Noon on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe. Interment will follow at Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Rayville, under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes, West Monroe. Visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
Windle Reed Gorden, son of David Denrent Wiltshire, Sr. and Gracie Lee Hannah, was born on the 19th of April, 1931 in Amory, Monroe, Mississippi. He passed this life on the 11th of June, 2025 at the age of 94 at home surrounded by family members.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; wife, Barbara Gorden; son, David Lavelle Gorden; grandsons, Ray Bourgeois Ill and Baby Lane. He leaves behind nine children, Ken (Shelia) Hudson, Shelia Gorden, Clifton (Nan) Gorden, Gracie (Robert) Coble, Donna Gorden, Reid (Nicole) Gorden Sr., Shawn Gorden, Autumn Laskey, and Clay (Emily) Gorden; step daughter, Shannon Peters (Randy); and fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and one second great- grandchild.
Windle was a veteran of the United States Army having served from Feb 1954 to Feb 1962 during the Korean War Era. He was stationed overseas in Germany, France, and Spain and also, several places in the United States including Desert Rock, Nevada where he took part in the atomic bomb testing in the 1950s. During his time in service, he was a cable splicer and also, graduated from the Officer’s Academy on the 7th of September 1956 in Munich, Germany. He was honorably and released from reserve in Feb of 1962.
Windle relocated from Mississippi to Monroe, Ouachita, Louisiana around 1957. By the 1960s, Windle opened his own business, Able Plumbing and Construction Company, which he ran until he retired.
Windle, a singer/song writer, played piano, organ, and guitar, including steel. He enjoyed playing and singing with his friends at Calhoun Baptist Church, nursing homes, VFWs, and festivals. In his younger years, he enjoyed raising and breaking Quarter Horses and showing them. He will be loved and missed by many.
