Willie Belle was born on August 18, 1902 in Marion, Louisiana to the union of Samuel Obie Kenley and Ada Everette Kenly, one of six children, they had a very hard life, losing their mother to death when the youngest child was a baby. They moved around a lot, but their daddy always kept the family together. December 31, 1918 she was married to Robert H. Owens and shortly there after he went into a veteran≠s hospital for treatment of lung problems resulting from being hit with parsian gas while fighting in WWI in France. He was confined in the hospital for 3 years. She went to work in Alexandria to be near him and kept her marriage strong. Willie Belle always adjusted to what ever situation she faced, and made the best of it. She has always been a survivor in any situation she faced, no matter how difficult it became, she trusted Jesus as her savior at an early age, and she learned to lean on him at all times. Bob passed away in 1966 and again she faced a new challenge of being alone as her girls were married with families of their own. Although they never had much in material things they both always were willing to share with those in need, she continued to be a kind and loving and giving friend to everyone she met. When she went into the nursing home at the age of 92 she adjusted well and was loved by the residents and staff. She will be greatly missed by many, many people. She is survived by her two daughters, Bettye Boyd and Bobbie Cox and husband Bo, all of Downsville, James Patrick of West Monroe the son they always wanted and the only brother Bobbie and Bettye ever had, seven grandchildren Billy King and wife Lou, Bobby King and wife Carol, Donna Lewis and husband Scott, John Cox and wife Rhonda, Danny Boyd and wife Sherry and Robbie Boyd , Marty Boyd and wife Sissy. great -grandchildren Angelia Borden and husband Clay, Amanda McDaniel and husband Josh, Jonathan King, Emily King, Valerie King, Dan Boyd, Beth Zachry and husband Erik, Ginger Boyd, Derek Mims, Lane Mims, Harold Cox and Hunter Cox; 3 great-great-grandchildren Chase, Noah and Grace Borden and looking forward to a fourth one in February.
