William (Bill) Warren Norris, JR was born March 2, 1927 at the family home north of old Highway 80 and old Tremont, LA (now known as Norris Road) in Lincoln Parish located between Choudrant and Calhoun, LA and passed away December 22, 2017, in West Monroe, LA. Bill is predeceased by his parents Eula Josephine Boyd and William Warren Norris, SR; his wife, Frances Lillian Freeman Norris; his son, Dennis Stephen Norris; and his siblings, Thomas Jack Norris and Emma Mae Norris. He is survived by his children Joel William (and Ginny-Lea Tonore) Norris, Carol Diane (and Robert) Sexton, his daughter-in-law Deborah Rosedale Norris; his grandchildren, Cynthia Lynn (and Sam) Pulitzer, Jeffrey Benjamin Sexton, Christina Michelle Norris, Gregory William (and Alyse Pete) Sexton, Kirk Alexander Sexton, Ashley Renee (and Jered) Gruber, Taylor Ann Norris, and Joel William Norris, II; and great-grandchildren, Bryce, Avery, and Vaughn Pulitzer.Bill graduated from ChoudrantHigh School in 1944, and began college at Louisiana Tech before being drafted into the US Army where he served as Army sergeant from 1945-1946 in the medical detachment in post-war Germany. Bill then completed his BS in Science Education at Louisiana Tech in 1950 as well as his Masters (1951) and PhD (1955) in Zoology at LSU Baton Rouge. He worked in the department of histology and microscopy at Swift and Company Research Laboratories in Chicago, IL from 1955-1960. After completing post doctorate work in histochemistry at Northwestern University Medical School, he was appointed head of the department of histology and microscopy at Swift and Company in 1958. He served as associate professor of Biology at Western Kentucky State College in Bowling Green, KY from 1960 1965 where he sponsored the Biology Club and organized and sponsored an honorary premedical fraternity.After moving to Monroe, LA in 1965, he served as an associate professor of Biology from 1965 to 1969 and became full professor in 1969. He founded the AED Honor Fraternity at Northeast Louisiana State College in Monroe, LA and was a member of several professional societies as well as being voted favorite professor by numerous student organizations. Bill retired as Professor Emeritus in Biology from NLU in 1990. Bill particularly enjoyed instructing many doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, dental hygiene professionals, and scientists who have served Monroe, LA and the surrounding region.Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening at the family farm; camping vacations with his family; traveling all over the world with his wife and her siblings; cooking; and playing games and cards with family and friends. He could identify most creatures, trees, plants, and bird songs. Bill was the happiest when he was in the great outdoors.Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monroe. Immediately following the visitation, a private family graveside service will be held at Alabama Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Brother Karl Norris officiating.
