One day a young man sat down next to me in an English class at Neville High School. He said it was his first day at Neville. I even remember that he was wearing a white tee shirt and blue jeans. I have never forgotten what he said. " I'm Bucky Mc Elroy and I'm here to play football. " Evidently, he knew exactly what he was talking about. I have known that Bucky and Joy have done many kind things for a lot of people. Bob Ledbetter, Ocala, Florida

Bucky McElroy was a true southern gentlemen. I had the opportunity to get to know him while I was at ULM and much better when I joined the staff at Southern Miss. Bucky is one of the all-time great athletes at USM and was loved by all his teammates. His 1953 team at USM is one of the closest teams I have ever known in sports. They hold a reunion at homecoming every year in Hattiesburg and Bucky was one of the leaders of the group. Not only was he a great athlete, he was a great man and gave much to the community of Monroe and the programs he supported. Our prayers go out to Joy and the family.
