Hays, age 83, of Ruston will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Temple Baptist Church. Officiating the services will be Rev. Joel Haire assisted by Rev. Dale Oden and Dr. Reggie Bridges. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.W. L. (Bill) Hays passed away on December 5, 2014 following a courageous fight against Parkinson‚ disease. He was born on June 18, 1931 in Arcadia, Louisiana and grew up in Shreveport. He graduated from Ruston High School and attended Louisiana Tech. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.Mr. Hays worked as a salesman for the Lone Star Cement Company and in the insurance business as a field man and underwriter. He retired from Commercial Union Insurance Company in 1997 after thirty-two years of service. He enjoyed playing tennis, camping with friends and his sons, as well as canoe trips to the Buffalo River. Spending time with his family and friends was very special to him.He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Muriel Stahl Hays; his three brothers, Sherwin Hays, Charles Hays, and Elwyn Hays. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Haire Hays; two daughters, Muriel Ryder of Ruston, and Elizabeth Porter and husband Pat of West Monroe; two sons, Edward Hays and Brian Hays, both of Murfreesboro TN; grandchildren Logan, Caroline, and Anna Ryder; Travis, Sydney, and Michael Hays; Hays, Joel, and Will Porter; Cole, Troy, and Carly Hays and great-grandson, Gabe Ryder; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Joel and Mary Haire. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Monday, December 8, 2014, at the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.
