William H. (Bill) Stearns passed away after a lengthy illness on April 15, 2018 at the age of 76. He received his B.A. in history from Union College in 1963 where he was an active member of Sigma Phi fraternity. After briefly attending Georgetown Law School, he decided to join the family construction firm of Stearns and Bergstrom in Syracuse, New York. He served there as vice-president and treasurer. In 1982, Stearns relocated to the Mineral Springs community in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. Stearns served on the board of directors of the Mineral Springs Water System and later became president of the board, a position he held for nearly thirty years. He was much loved by his family, his friends, and the community he served.Stearns was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Stearns Turner of Camillus, NY. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Giles Stearns; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Stearns Bennett and Scott Bennett of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth Bennett of Dallas, TX; niece, Karen Turner Malinowski of Syracuse, New York; and nephew, William Layton Turner of Camillus, New York.Visitation hours will be held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana on Thursday, April 19 from 5-7 pm followed by a graveside service at Mineral Springs Cemetery on Friday, April 20 at 11:00 am.
