Mr. William Eugene "Bill" Dent, Jr., of Monroe, LA died on Monday, July 23, 2007 after a brief illness. He was born April 5, 1919 in Jackson, MS and has resided in Monroe since 1953. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Dent, Sr. and brother Thomas N. Dent of Jackson MS. He attended Millsaps College in Jackson and graduated from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. He served in the 8th Air Force 389th Bomb Group in Europe and North Africa during World War II. After the war, he became a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation serving in Washington, DC, Cleveland and Toledo, OH, Seattle, WA, San Francisco and Stockton, CA, and Monroe, LA as Senior Resident Agent. Upon Retirement from the FBI, he was appointed Director of Public Safety for the State of Louisiana by then Governor John McKeithen for the remainder of his term in office. He then returned to Monroe and was active in the oil and gas business in North East LA with several partners. He was President of Calawinn, Corp. and a partner in real estate and pipeline ventures. Mr. Dent was a Deacon and active member of Parkview Baptist Church and David Byrd's Sunday School class. He was active in many of Monroe's civic and cultural activities. He served as president of the local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and as a state board member; past Treasurer of the First Families of Mississippi, member of the Magna Charta Barons; past president of the English Speaking Union; past president of Crime Stoppers, chairman of a Good Government Committee appointed by the then Mayor Jack Howard. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow in the Monroe Rotary Club. Mr. Dent is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlottie Willis Dent, sons William Eugene Dent, III, and Mark Willis Dent, Katherine Vellard, special daughter, sister Clara Francis Dent Harding and her husband Jack Harding of Jackson MS, four grandchildren Charlottie Katherine Dent Minardi and her husband Michael Minardi of Denton, TX. Aaron Tilden Dent, his wife Dana Dent, Alexander Douglas Dent and Adam McCommons Dent and two great grandchildren Tyler Tilden Dent and Abigail Marie Dent. The funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Parkview Baptist Church, Monroe, LA with Dr. Whit Holmes officiating. The private burial service will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick≠s Funeral Home of Monroe. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until service time. Paul bearers will be nephews and others: Richard Harding, Barry Dent, Eugene Dent, Tommy Dent, Michael Minardi, Thomas Allen Willis, Richard Willis. Honorary pall bearers will be David Byrd's Sunday School class, Dr. George T. Walker, Willie Mitchell, Vince Coyle, Stanley Mintz, and James C. Kelly.
