A celebration of the life of William Cecil Harrell, 92, of Dubach will be held 2:00 Monday, October 20, 2014 at Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Baskin officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. A visitation will begin at 12:30 P.M until service time at the church. Mr. Harrell was born November 16, 1921 in Lincoln Parish and passed away October 18, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a committed Christian who was a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, a good neighbor and friend to many. He loved to hunt and fish. He and his wife spent many happy hours camping at Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas with family and friends. Mr. Harrell was a blessing to his family and friends and will be truly missed.On July 11, 1944 he married Armede Wright, while home on leave from the U.S. Army. In December of that year he shipped out overseas to serve in World War II with General George Patton‚ 89th Infantry Division. He served in France, Germany, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, and Switzerland. He said many times that he walked all the way across Germany. After V-E Day he was stationed at Camp Lucky Strike, a deployment camp in France for solders returning home. His company also helped liberate survivors of the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp. After returning home from the war he worked for Chevron, formerly the California Company until his retirement in 1986.He was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life for sixty-eight years, Armede Wright Harrell; parents: Viola and Elmer Harrell; son: Edwin Cecil Harrell; brother: Loy Harrell and wife Irma Jean Harrell; brothers-in-law: Arvelle Stephenson and L. D. Colvin. Mr. Harrell is survived by two daughters: Linda Harrell Hamner and husband Bill of Dubach, Celia Harrell Wall and husband Charles of Dubach; grandchildren: Sharon Hamner Bridges of Monroe; David Hamner and wife Janene of Lafayette; Michael Wall of Creola; Marsha Wall Smith and husband Jason of Ruston; great-grandchildren: Matt Bridges and wife Adrienne of Monore, Lisa Bridges of Dallas, TX, Lauren Lambeth and husband Josh of Nebo, Lindsey King and husband Cody of Jena, Jake Hamner of Monroe, Austin Riley of Ruston, Logan Smith of Ruston, and Victoria Wall of Creola; great-great-grandchildren: Neely Bridges of Monroe, Olivia and Adelyn Lambeth of Nebo, and Mallory King of Jena. He is also survived by his sister, Devonne Stephenson of Vivian; brother, Billy Joe Harrell and wife Estelle of Dubach; and sister-in-law, Edwina Colvin of Dubach; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.Pallbearers will be Eddie Colvin, Bob Jefcoat, Steve Ryan, Aaron Wood, Mark Wood, and Phillip Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Colvin, Bobbie Joe Harrell, Donnie Harrell, and Gary Henry.For all the wonderful care given to him, the family would like to thank Dr. William Sanders, the caring nurses at STAT Home Health and St. Joseph Hospice.
