William “Bill” Elbert Roark, a respected figure in the commercial real estate industry and a pillar of the Ouachita Parish community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the age of 83. Known for his friendly nature, dedication, tenacity and kind heart, Bill leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.

Born and raised in West Monroe, Bill developed a deep-rooted love for his hometown. He was a graduate of ULM with a degree in history and spent several years working in ministry before embarking on a storied career in commercial real estate that would span five decades as the owner of Tri State Properties. His passion for the industry was evident from the start, as he quickly established himself as a trusted advisor and skilled negotiator.

Throughout his career, Bill Roark was instrumental in shaping the area’s restaurant, retail and office projects. He played a pivotal role in numerous landmark developments, including Critters Creek Waterpark, Target, Academy Sports, and Home Depot. His expertise in retail and restaurant development was unparalleled, and his clients benefited from his insightful guidance and strategic thinking.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was deeply committed to giving back to his community. He was well known for a weekly newspaper column in the Ouachita Citizen, primarily covering real estate topics, but frequently venturing into all areas of life. He taught a Sunday School class for nearly forty years at Cedar Crest Baptist Church where he developed many lifelong friendships. Bill served on the boards of various charitable organizations, including Lions Club, Monroe Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Louisiana Board of Realtors, and the Lake D’Arbonne Board of Commissioners.

Funeral services will be held at Cedar Crest Baptist Church on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Greg Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe. Visitation will precede the service at 9:00 a.m. at the church under the care and direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Jesse Rankin Roark and Thelma Anita Smith Roark, his brother Houston, and his loving wife of 50 years, Janice. He is survived by his children, daughter April Gay and husband Tim of Glenwood Springs, Colorado and son Ryan Roark and wife Leighe of West Monroe, Louisiana; six grandchildren Sara, Will, Evie, Lesleigh, Isaac, and Ryleigh; and one great-grandchild Layla. He was greatly loved and will be missed immensely by all.

Serving as pallbearers will be Will Boney, Isaac Faz, Mike Rhodes, Bobby Swanner, Tim Gay, and Tommy Rhodes.
