Funeral services for Walter Andrew Brister Jr, will be at 11:00, Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Monroe. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Monroe from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Officiating will be Rev. Dale Walker. Entombment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Monroe. Coach Brister was a graduate of Bunkie High School, Louisiana College, and Louisiana Tech. He coached at La Grange High School, Bunkie High School, Pineville High School, West Monroe High School, and St. Frederick High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Brister was born in Mansfield, Louisiana on January 7, 1927, and passed away at 86 at Glenwood Hospital on November 18, 2013, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Campbell Brister, parents, Walter Andrew Brister Sr. and Mamie Heard Brister, his sister Patsy Brister Lewis ; and great-grandson, Trent Weaver. Survivors; daughters, Dianne Thompson and husband, Chip and children, Ryan Thompson and Lauryn Sargent.; Debbie Barker and husband, Travis and children, Brad, Brian, and Brandon Baker; Drew Farr and husband, Joe and children, Shonda McIntyre , Patrick Farr and Peyton Farr, Danna Braud and husband, Hud and children, Bristen and Brelynn Witty, and Bric Braud; Donna VanVeckhoven and Mike VanVeckhoven and children, Colby Walker, Trey Weaver , Truman, Connor, and Trevor VanVeckhoven; son, Walter Andrew Brister, III Bubby and wife, Bonnie and children, Madeline and Andrew Brister; great grandchildren, Beau, Barrett, and Britton Barker, Aly and Bear Barker, Ava Drew McIntyre, Kaitlyn Thompson, and Allison Sargent; sisters, Fern Fifield ; June Gough, and Carol Martin, and numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Walter's former football players: Charles Hansen, Oliver LaPrairie, Anthony Armand, Billy Mixon, Charles Earnest, Pat Ryan, Edgar Landry, Skipper Luke, Sidney L. Campbell, and Randy Russell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Gremillion, Sonny Harris, Sidney Steele, Herman Reed, and W. S. Stebo Pearce. The family would like to thank The Arbor and Terrace of West Monroe and Louisiana Hospice for their care, compassion and kindness shown to our father during this most difficult time.
