Funeral services for Virgie Pearl Haley May, Pearlie, of West Monroe will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 8, 2016 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Rev. Waymond Warren will officiate. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Virgie Pearl Haley was born September 17, 1927 and passed away on August 5, 2016. Pearlie, the first daughter of nine children in the family of the late James Elbert Haley and Lela Tullos Haley, was born in West Monroe. Their was a close family and, as the oldest daughter, Pearlie was indispensable in helping her mother at home, raise and care for her beloved brothers and sisters. Pearlie graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, Louisiana, and worked for the telephone company until her firstborn child and married life called her to be at home full-time.Pearlie Haley married the late John J. May (J.J.) on April 17, 1948, and they went on to have four children, to whom she was completely devoted; Barbara Gail Roethlisberger(Al), John Elbert May (Pat), Patricia Ann May Thompson (Mike), and Jeffery Earl May, who lived with and cared for her after her husband and best friend passed away after 58 years of marriage. Pearlie and J.J. had seven grandchildren; Albert W. Roethlisberger, John Chambers Roethlisberger, Anne Alicia Roethlisberger, John Charles (J.C.) May, Robert Patrick May, Jay Garrett Thompson, Joel Patrick Thompson; 20 beautiful great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Pearlie and J.J. lived and raised their children at 203 Malvern Street in Monroe for ten years and then, moved to 107 Jowers Road, West Monroe where they also were members of Fair Park Baptist Church.Pearlie was a complete blessing to all her family and friends, admired, respected, and very loved. Hers was truly a life well-lived and a job well-done.Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also and he praises her, saying: Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.
