Funeral services for Vernon M. Duffey “Uncle Duffey”, 88, of Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, November 15, 2013 at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Monroe. Father Joe Puthuppally will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm at Old Natchez Cemetery, Natchez, MS under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Vernon entered medical corps in 1943 and served during World War II. After his military career he returned to West Monroe and married the love of his wife, Josephine DiStefano. Then he had a long career with the U. S. Postal service and retired as assistant Postmaster of West Monroe. Vernon was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church. His hobbies included gardening and panning for gold and volunteered numerous years at Black Bayou Refuge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Josephine Duffey. Vernon is survived by his niece, Debbie Abbott and husband Billy; great-niece, Kerri Stephens and husband Brad and their daughter Catherine; 3 sisters; Sue Tolbird and husband Travis, Laura Ann Sanders and husband Billy Wayne and Jackie Harper; sister-in-laws, Anne Cook, Elizabeth Smith and husband Clint and Freda DiStefano; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe and 9 AM until service time at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Monroe.
