Funeral services for Verlin Roberts Hammons, 98, of Downsville, La, will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Downsville Baptist Church in Downsville, LA. Officiating the service will be Rev. Johnny Miller. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. till time of service at the church. Interment will follow at Downsville City Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville.Verlin was born November 1, 1920 in Downsville, LA, and went home to be with the Lord on February 20, 2019. She is preceded in death by her husband Purvis Hammons, daughter Merilyn Antley, sister Louise Averitte and parents Willie and Gordie Roberts. Verlin was a faithful member of Downsville Baptist Church for many years. She loved her church and enjoyed going every chance she could and went as long as she was able. She took art and ceramic classes in Farmerville and enjoyed painting and making ceramics over the years along with crocheting in her past time. But, among all of these her proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren who she loved dearly. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family which we often did with weekly meals shared together at her home. She loved to read and write in journals which she did daily. She kept up with newspaper clippings of history and once created a book about her family and Downsville History. She was a wonderful, loving person and she will be missed so much. Survivors include her son, Tod Hammons and wife Barbie of Downsville, La; Granddaughter, Stephanie Hammons Turnbow and husband James of Downsville, La; their children, Taylor and Wesley of Downsville, La; Grandson, Purvis A. Hammons and wife Jessica their children Nathan, Layton and Logan of Downsville, La; Grandson, Steve Antley and wife Linda; their daughters Ashley Antley and boyfriend Derek Davis; Ashtyn Antley Barrett and husband Josh and their son Briar. Grandson, Eric Antley and wife Amy their children Jordyn, Austyn, Sydney, and Tyler of Downsville, La; numerous nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Wayne Hammons, Max Hammons, Mike Lazenby, Ronnie Hammons, Ronnie Walsworth, and Tommy Banks.In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Downsville Baptist Church in her memory, P.O.
