Graveside services will be held for Verdie Kathryne Hicks Anderson on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Reverend Dale Oden will officiate, assisted by Dr. Reggie Bridges Immediately following, a memorial reception will be held at Temple Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.Verdie was born on August 16, 1918 in Gibsland, LA. She died peacefully at Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on September 6, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Billy Anderson and her daughter, Harriett Anderson Humphries Williamson. She is survived by her son, James B. Anderson and wife, Antionette: grandson: Ben Humphries and wife, Diana, granddaughters: Jan Marie Humphries Smith and husband , Harry; Jill Humphries Cobb and husband, Harvey; Laura Anderson Thompson and husband, Clay and Beth Anderson Maddox; great grandchildren: Kelly Humphries Futtrell, Molly Humphries, Maggie Humphries, Sarah Johnson, Emily Earl, Hanna Smith, Charles Buddy Cobb, Jesse Cobb, Andie Thompson, Hunter Thompson, Luke Thompson, Kristin Maddox, Cassidy Maddox and Kendall Maddox; 2 great-great grandchildren: Elliott and Oliver; sisters: Annie Ruth Carroll, Pauline Newsom, Betty Jo Barnes, and a very special sister-in-law, Carolyn Mahaffey.Verdie was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church. She loved taking trips with the Young at Heart group. She was a self taught artist, seamstress, quilter, gardener, and chef.The family would like to express sincere thanks to the entire staff at Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who lovingly cared for Verdie for 4 years. Thanks also to Professional Hospice Care for their compassionate care.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Temple Baptist Church or Louisiana Baptist Children Home.Online condolences may be made to the family @ www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
