Tu Thi Nguyen was born November 5, 1949, in Hanoi, Vietnam. She passed away on March 29, 2020, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Per Tu’s request there will be no formal services. Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe handled final arrangements…
Tu was preceded in death by her parents, Ninh Nguyen and Yen Le. She is survived by six siblings: Thi Nguyen and wife, Kimberly, of Sterlington, LA; Dr. Dung Le and husband, Long, of Delhi LA ; Van Nguyen and wife, Hieu , of Sterlington, LA; Phuc Lee of Pennsylvania; Phung Nguyen and wife, Anh of Baton Rouge, LA; and Anh Nguyen and wife, Ly, of Dallas TX. Numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews enjoyed being loved and spoiled by Aunt Tu. Each family member has special memories of how Tu influenced their lives. She cherished time spent with family members and they valued her encouragement and guidance. She took great pride in the success of every family member.
Shortly after arriving in North Louisiana, Tu was hired by State Farm Insurance to work in the Mid-South Regional Office in Monroe. Tu’s career was spent working in Fire Company where she worked in numerous units. She was a quick learner and a team player, always willing to help others. Due to Tu’s spirit of volunteering, she became known and loved throughout the office. She was always participating with the Activities Committee in putting together events for employees. Tu especially enjoyed working events for children. If an event was scheduled for the weekend, Tu was first on the scene to get the ball rolling.
Continuing education was very important to Tu. In addition to her many insurance designations, Tu obtained her Notary license in 2008. She was proud of this accomplishment as the Louisiana test is known to be extremely difficult to pass.
Tu will be missed by her State Farm family. She was a great co-worker, trainer and friend to all. Her talents went beyond the norm as she quickly became known for her culinary talents. Her homemade toffee, her wonderful pastries, and handmade pound cakes brought many smiles as she liked to indulge her coworkers on a regular basis. After the closing of the Mid-South Regional Office in 2005, Tu continued to spend time with State Farm friends. Many Saturday morning’s Tu could be found having breakfast and sharing news with close friends Rena Stansbury and Rita Laforge.
In addition to time spent working, Tu devoted her time to caring for a family friend, Allen Thompson. Later she befriended an elderly neighbor Bonnie Cox and checked on her regularly, even after Ms. Bonnie moved to assisted living. Ladies from First West welcomed Tu to their sewing group where she joined them in preparing care packages for underprivileged girls in other countries. In taking care of others, Tu made many lasting friendships.
