Uncle Truman slipped away early Wednesday morning to join his sweetheart, our precious Aunt Dorene. After 70 years together on earth, 17 months apart was enough. He and Dorene Johnson were married August 19 (so he would never forget their anniversary), 1949.
Funeral services for Truman Poole will be held Saturday February 13, 2021 at 2 pm with visitation from 1pm until services in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe with Bro Bryan Rankin officiating. Truman Adams Poole was born August 19, 1927 to Hardy and Nora Boyd Poole in Hebert, LA. and passed away February 10, 2021 at Ridgecrest Nursing home.
Uncle Truman was preceded in death by his parents, his sweetheart Dorene, four brothers, Vernon (Bunk), Raymond, Willard, and John Hardy and their wives and three sisters, Grace Herrington, Jo Howard, and Sis Heflin and their husbands and two brothers in law, John Wilks and RF Graves and best friend, Ruff Tullos.
Surviving Uncle Truman is his nephew Donald (Donnie) Poole, who he loved as a son, wife Judy and Lydia Holland Baugh and Lisa Holland Stockle, he called his God Children. They considered Aunt and Uncle their grandparents. He will be deeply missed by his special friend and neighbor, Nick Robeson who called him Poppa and his wife Janice. Mr. Robeson called or checked on Uncle everyday when he lived at home and after he went to Ridgecrest.
Also surviving him is one brother, Billy Jo and wife, Goldie, of Hebert, LA and two sisters, Myrtis Wilks of Columbia and Patsy Graves of Monroe. Uncle is survived by special nieces, Cathy Richardson, Bonita Brooks, husband Dennis, Regina Stewart, husband Leamon (Peanut), Bunkie Mathews, husband Ronnie, and Karen Turcotte and special nephew, Steve Poole. He is also survived by many other loved and cherished nieces and nephews.
Uncle Truman will also be deeply missed by special long time friends, Georgia and Anna Tullos, Betty Armstrong, Darryl Ferguson and wife Sandy, Bill and Mary Holland, Rich and Linda Bailey, John and Anna Powell, Jeff and Michelle Smith, Dick Bounds, David Freeman and Maryanne Volet
Uncle Truman was a veteran of WWII, a 32nd degree Mason and was honored with a 70 year membership recognition in 2019. Aunt Dorene’s love of and talent for selling real estate allowed him to retire from Olin at age 50 and for them to enjoy building camps in Caldwell Parish and Mississippi. Uncle’s passion was hunting deer, turkeys, squirrels, and pheasants. He also enjoyed a successful Elk hunt and a bear hunt in Canada although he came home without a bear. He also loved acquiring and leasing farm land.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, Steve Poole, Howie Howard, Ryan Howard, Leamon Stewart, and Duane Wilks.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Darrell Ferguson, Billie Holland, Nick Robeson, Rich Bailey, and Foster Poole.
The family extends a very special thank you to all the wonderful hard working, caring, dedicated nurses and staff of Ridgecrest Nursing Home and to Louisiana Hospice nurses, Amy and Caitlin. Also thank you to Dr. Brad Johnson and Dr. Paul Murphy, who’s excellent care extended his life.
The family request any memorials to Shriners Hospital for Children in lieu of flowers.
