Theo BarrKilpatrick Funeral HomeRuston, LATheodosia Greer Barr, 83, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Northern Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston, Louisiana, following a brief illness.The youngest of fourteen children, Theo was born to William Jasper and Lela Wallace Greer in Alto, Louisiana, on November 19, 1931, and grew up near Rayville.Following high school, she married Arliss Morelle Barr of Vernon, and they made their home in Ruston. While their five children were growing up, Theo was a stay-at-home mom who fostered an environment of spiritual, social, cultural, and intellectual development for her kids. She was an excellent cook and served delicious meals to her family. Theo loved music, wasadept at whistling, and had a lovely soprano voice. One of her favorite activities was playing games, especially Scrabble and Phase 10, with Morelle, their children and grandchildren, and besting her was always a challenge.Theo never met a stranger. Her warm personality, gift for gab, tenacity, and attention to detail brought her great success as an Avon representative, a women's clothing salesperson, and a real estate agent and broker. Before she retired, she founded and owned Chautauqua Realty. She and Morelle, who were married for over sixty years, were both very active members of Southside Baptist Church, where Theo sang in the choir for many years. They loved to travel; Branson, Missouri was their favorite destination, and they enjoyed several cruises. Following Morelle death in 2011, she moved to the Arbor of Ruston and was a resident there for almost four years.Theo is survived by five children and their spouses: Debbie Barr Hancock and husband, Tawny, of Alexandria; Mike Barr and wife, Kay, of Vernon; Danny Barr and wife, JoAnn, of Ruston; Sherri Barr Pearce and husband, Jim, of Ruston; and Chris Barr and wife, Lisa, of Ruston. She had fifteen grandchildren: Michael Hancock and wife, Cassidy; Jared Hancock and wife, Amanda; Whit Hancock and wife, Ashley; Jessica Barr Rinehart and husband, Chris; Aubrey Barr and wife, Shannon; Heather Barr Sherrard and husband, Casey; Caitlin Barr Ellis and husband, Jimmy; Suzanne Barr Russell and husband, Matt; Danielle Barr Sliepka and husband, Alex; Amy Barr; Megan Pearce; Hunter Pearce and wife, Cassie; Brandon Pearce and e, Taylor Henderson; Sara Kate Barr; and Reeves Barr. She also had fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Edward Earl Greer and wife, Claudia, and sister-in-law Vera Greer, all of West Monroe, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Her life will be celebrated Wednesday, January 21, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, with Rev. David Abernathy and Rev. Dale Oden officiating. Burial will follow at the Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Her grandsons will honor their MeMaw as pallbearers.
