Susan Baird Stutson, 82, of Longview, TX went to be with the Lord on Good Friday, April 15, 2022 in her Longview, TX home. She was born in Shreveport, LA on February 3, 1940 to Lillian Catherine Baird and Robert Baird.
Susan was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School and was graduated from the 1959 class. After graduation she went on to business school in Arkansas. She married her life-long love, Bill Stutson on February 23, 1961 and set up their home in Shreveport.
She was a paraprofessional in the Caddo Parish School System for 20 years, where she worked with children with disabilities and loved each one of the children that she taught.
She was a Charter member of the Region 13 Hemerocallis Society where she worked alongside her husband Bill in their dream hobby of growing, judging, and hybridizing daylilies. Their garden grew and became a display garden for daylily lovers and others to see and enjoy. Susan had a passion for flowers and was very creative. She also enjoyed sewing clothes and doll clothes for her daughters and made quilts for her grand and great grandchildren. Susan loved the Lord and also taught Sunday School for many years. She had a love for animals too. She loved dogs and cats and was especially fond of her precious Pomeranian, Teddy Roosevelt and her cat Otis Lee Jenkins.
Susan is survived by her children, Lisa Marie Skains of Baton Rouge, LA and Laura Lee Rainer and husband Kirby of Longview, Tx. She had five grandchildren, Katie Yankowsky and husband Josh of Baton Rouge, LA; Drew Skains and wife Molly of Ruston, LA, Kellen Skains of Baton Rouge, LA, Susan Brunson and husband Ross of Longview, TX, and Reed Rainer and fiancé’ Keely Clark of Longview, TX. She was also blessed to have two great – grandchildren, Isabella Marie Yankowsky and London York Yankowsky and soon to be born Rivers Ann Elizabeth Skains; brother, William Alan Baird (Bill) of Longview; nephews, Tommy Baird, Jr of Shreveport, LA, Nathan Hendricks of Bossier, LA; John Meyers of Harrisonburg, LA; and one niece, Andrea Cruse of Harrisonburg, LA; many other cherished family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and Robert Baird; her husband, William “Bill” Stutson; brother, Tommy Baird, Sr.; and sister, Patricia Ann Hendricks.
Susan will be remembered in a special visitation on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA with a graveside service to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Kilpatrick’s Memorial Gardens.
