Graveside services for Stan Grube will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 with Bro. Justin Nowlin officiating at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
Stan is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Grube, his mother, Elizabeth Armstrong, father, Charles Thomas “C T” Grube and brothers Charles and Don Grube. Along with his beloved wife Carolyn, they were founding members of Faith Chapel Pentecostal Church, where they invested a great deal of their love and time throughout the years. Stan loved breakfast every morning with his friends at Belle’s Ole South Diner, often followed by a visit with family for coffee. He was a steadfast father and friend, that could be counted on during emergencies big and small, throughout our lifetimes. Stan had a sweet tooth, always having Ding Dongs, Twinkies or Little Debbie snacks and popsicles on hand around the house. He was the church “candy man.” Kids and adults at church always knew that they could approach him for a Werther’s caramel or a pack of Smarties.
He served as a mechanic in the United States Air Force, stationed in Germany with the 492nd Fighter Bomber Squadron during the Korean War and was a past commander of the Monroe VFW Hall. For more than 20 years he worked at Snell’s fitting and building braces and artificial limbs. In addition to his craftsmanship skills, he had an ability to connect with the people he served. The obvious and apparent love he had for people quickly created trust and bonds that would span a lifetime, as Stan would refit their limbs from childhood through their adult lives. He continued his career at Hanger, which was like a family to him for another 20 years. Stan attempted retirement a couple of times, but kept coming back to see his dear friends at Hanger and keep working and finally fully retired in his mid eighties. For Christmas every year, he would buy 70 pounds of cracked pecans, shell them, and make “Carolyn’s trash” to give to family and friends. Every Valentine’s Day, he bought chocolate hearts for his girls and grandkids, and would hand deliver them. He loved to travel with Carolyn and any of the kids or grandchildren that would come along. They saw all 50 states and many different countries on these trips and were always up for an unexpected stop to see an attraction or something interesting or make an impromptu detour. We will always cherish the spontaneous beach trips every summer in the station wagon with our comic books. Our daddy made life fun for us all.
Stan is survived by his daughters Libby Grube Hammons (Jeffrey Gray); Tonya Auttonberry (Lynell); Tess Ballance (Todd) son Paul Grube (Paulette); granddaughters; Baillie Johnson (Chris), Rebecca Minter (Chase), Allie Ballance, Kimmie Ballance, Nicole Reed (Dustin), Brooke Drake (Dane), his littlest loves, great-grandchildren Rylan, Reece and Rhett Minter, Haylee, Cody and Hannah Reed, Taylor Woodrum, Peyton and Arya Drake.
Pallbearers will be Todd Ballance, Lynell Auttonberry, Chris Johnson, Chase Minter and Jeffrey Gray.
Memorials may be made to Faith Chapel Pentecostal Church to sponsor a child for Youth Camp.
