Following an 11 year battle with cancer, Shelia Dianne Hammond Rosier, 67, died early in the morning on October 22, 2022 at M. D. Anderson in Houston, Texas. She passed away surrounded by her mother, sister, niece Erin, and lifelong friend Lee Anne McCaskill Martin. Visitation will be from 9 – 11 am Saturday, October 29 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe with funeral service to directly follow. Burial will be at McCormick Cemetery on Hwy 15. Services will be led by Bro. Larry Walters.
Dianne was born in Monroe on January 5, 1956 to Paul T. Hammond Sr. and Peggy Dale Roberts Hammond. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Rosier; father, Paul T. Hammond Sr; maternal grandparents Earl Dale and Chester Roberts; and paternal grandparents Audrey Lee and Harvey Thomas Hammond.
She is survived by her mother, Peggy Dale Roberts Hammond (West Monroe, La); sister, Paula Hammond McCown and husband, David (Calhoun, La); brother, Paul T. Hammond Jr. (Calhoun, La); nephew, Thomas Matthew Hammond, II (West Monroe, La); niece, Angela Nicole Hammond and son, Braden (West Monroe, La); niece, Erin Dale McCown Simpson and husband, Wesley and daughter, Clara (Calhoun, La); and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
One of Dianne’s passions, and if you were around her long enough you’re sure to agree, was keeping the past alive. She was a master storyteller and took you along with her as she painted pictures of places she’d been, people she’d met, and all the shenanigans along the way. She had researched her family history back to the late 1700s. She found tremendous pride living in Calhoun on the road named after her great-grandfather and across from the home she spent the majority of her childhood in. Her wit and wicked sense of humor often left you cracking up or wondering just how serious she might have actually been.
Dianne was queen of collecting people along her way. She was involved in numerous groups and organizations (local and national) and has left a lasting impact on hundreds, if not thousands, of people. Dianne’s giving spirit and natural-born leadership led her to organizations such as the American Business Women’s Association, ARCO, and Our H.O.M.E., among many others. She was the youngest Mother Advisor in the state of Louisiana for the Monroe Assembly #5 Rainbow Girls. Her most recent dedication was to Family Promise of Ouachita. She served as a board member, president of the board, and then Executive Director, the position she held until she passed. She also spent numerous hours at the Family Promise Thrift Store and on fundraising endeavors for both Family Promise and other organizations.
Many realtors in our community have credited her with giving them a strong foundation to start their real estate careers. Her position with Legacy Worldwide Institute and Keller Williams Parishwide Partners allowed her to teach, encourage, and mentor up-and-coming real estate agents. The connections she built with these agents and her coworkers, along with the many others she collected from numerous volunteer positions and leadership roles, brought her immeasurable joy.
In the last few years, Dianne could often be overheard discussing stories of her dad, her “sweet William”, her chihuahuas Bandit and Sassy, growing up in the country, her niece Erin, and her great-niece Clara. You could tell she loved her family dearly and saw the sparkle in her eye when she talked about them. Her heart was devoted to helping others and her legacy lives on through the lives she impacted and the memories she helped create.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dwaine Foster, John Foster, Darrel Jans, Ronny Naron, Chase Stafford, Talion Talley, Robert Wilson and Andrew Yarbrough.
Dianne’s family would like to thank her doctors and nurses, both local and at M.D. Anderson, Pilots for Patients, and those who traveled with her to appointments including Lee Anne McCaskill Martin, Bevelyn Hunter, and Sharon Williams.
Her family would also like to extend their appreciation to those who kept her in their prayers, encouraged her when she was down, and brought a smile to her face as she was known to do for others as well.
As Dianne said, “Get the stress out so the joy can come in.” What beautiful words to live by!
