Graveside services and military honors for Sgt. (Ret) Scott, Lawrence Steven, 65, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Hasley Cemetery. Vernon McMillon will be officiating under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.Steve was born in Houston, TX on June 25, 1950 and passed away January 2, 2016 in Calhoun, LA. Steve after leaving West Monroe High School joined the U.S. Army to be a Paratrooper with C Co. 2nd Bn. 503rd Abn. Inf. 173 rd ABN.BGE (Sep) which he did from August 1, 1969-June 21, 1971. AWARDS: Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Stars, RVN Gallantry Cross, RVN Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Army Valorous Unit Citation, RVN Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, RVN Civic Action Honor Medal Unit Citation, but he was most proud of his Silver Parachute Badge (with 29 jumps). He worked for the U.S. Post Office until he was disabled on the job. He believed in helping other veterans with VA claims until he died. Steve was a Life Member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Post 3993 West Monroe, LA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Jean Goodwin, Aunt Lorraine Isaac Bruce Aunt Rainey and grandchild J.C. Paulman.He is survived by his 2 children; Stephenie Scott Harris and husband Mark, Steven Waine Scott; 1 grandchild, Shanna Scott; 3 step-grandchildren, Corbin Harris and wife Amanda, Conley Harris and Baylee Harris; brother, John Thomas Goodwin; sisters, Lori Goodwin Ayers and Carol Bruce Winters and husband Robert; also survived by his wife Betty and her family, which includes her children, Carl and wife Chandyce, Jennifer and husband Sean and Waylon; and grandchildren, Kirstyn, Emily, Parker, Kurt, Daylon, Carl Nathan and Ireland, and his canine companion Sadie.Pallbearers will be James PeeWee Parrott, Ralph Fraley, Pat Simmons, Jerry Hughes, William Yankee Bryant, and James Fowler.
