Rodney G. Welch

Rodney G. Welch, 73 years old, of Ruston, LA was called home to the Lord Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Rodney was born to Erby and Murrell Welch in Money, MS on November 20, 1946.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Rodney married Elizabeth Buchanan on May 27, 1967.  They would celebrate 53 years of marriage this year.  Rodney loved to fish, play golf and work in his garden.  He spent many hours golfing and fishing with his close friend Joe Riley.

His greatest pleasure was his grandchildren.  Many hours were spent watching the grandchildren playing various sports.

After high school and college, Rodney began his career as a postal clerk in Greenwood, MS.  He served as postmaster in Mississippi, Arkansas, before coming to Ruston in 1986 as postmaster until his retirement in 2003.  He was a member of Cook Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and on various committees.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Erby and Murrell Welch, and his brothers, Winston Welch and Lonnie Welch.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; his brother Jerald and wife Sue; son, Jay and wife Rebecca of Ruston; daughter, Alisha Welch Young of Bella Vista, AR; son, Jeff and wife Jennifer of Centerton, AR.; 9 grandchildren: Brittany Welch Cobb and husband Tyler, Michael Welch and wife Samantha, Garrett Young, Justin Welch, Lucas Young, Jayson Welch, Mason Welch, Kendall Welch, Jonesie Welch; and great-grandchild Easton Cobb.

Pallbearers will be his seven grandsons and Richard Avant of Greenwood, MS. Adult 3 men’s Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Due to the present climate of caution, a Private Family Service will be held at Cook Baptist Church in Ruston, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Premier Hospice and caring physicians who assisted in his care during his illness.
