She moved to Longview, TX at the age of nine. It was there where she met and married her high school sweetheart, George Norris, of sixty years. As a young adult and mother, Robbie was very active in civic organizations and PTA while living in Winnsboro, TX. She and her family moved to Ruston in 1957. In 1974, George‚ profession relocated he and Robbie to other areas. Upon retirement in 1987, they returned to Ruston. Robbie loved God and loved her church where she continued her membership for 53 years serving on the Vestry and Altar Guild, president of the Episcopal Church Women and an active member of Daughters of the King. For many years, she could always be found in the church kitchen stirring the pot for whatever occasion. Robbie, affectionately known as Mammy by her grandchildren, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who adored her family as they do her. Her warm comfortable home was constantly filled with the wonderful aroma of her delicious cooking and freshly perked coffee. We always gathered in the kitchen to sample and visit. She was such a fabulous cook and wanted to make sure we all had plenty of the dishes she had prepared. Robbie was a talented seamstress and delighted in working with clothes as she portrayed through her employment with Bess Cook‚ Dress Shop and later, Lewis and Company. Robbie was founder of the Bess Cook logo your key to fashion. Her talents continued in modeling (which she loved) for several department stores including D.H. Holmes while living in Lafayette. Robbie was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and playing bridge, especially with her bridge club who have been together for more than 20 years. Another favorite pleasure was her membership in the Ruston Chapter of the Red Hat Ladies. She loved the beach where she spent many summers. Robbie will always be remembered for her striking, wide-brimmed hats that she wore so well and her kind and caring nature. She loved life and loved people. Robbie was a true lady beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. Robbie fought a courageous battle for many years with rheumatoid arthritis and heart/lung disease.
