Funeral services for Robert Uriah Brasher, age 90, of Ruston will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Dr. Andrew Johnson, and Dr. Chris Craig. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery in Bastrop, LA with Military Honors. Services are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Bob was born January 27, 1922 to Jim Clyde and Corine Brasher in Farmerville and passed away May 17, 2012. He is preceded in death by his Mom and Dad; brother: Mitchell Brasher; sister: Jo Brasher Simpson; and his mother and father-in-law: Hugh and Ola Turner. Bob joined the US Marines on August 28, 1942 and was honorably discharged on October 18, 1945. He was proud to be a Marine and served his country with that same pride. Bob received the Most Valuable Player award for the Marine Hawks baseball team. After serving in the Marines he returned to finish his education at LA Tech for four years on a baseball scholarship. He taught school in Union and Morehouse parishes. Bob taught at Bastrop High School and coached football, baseball, and was Principal at East Side Elementary in Bastrop in 1969. Retired as Assistant Superintendant of Schools in 1982 of Morehouse Parish. Bob is survived by his wife Doris Turner Brasher; sons: Bobby and wife Linda, and their children, Seth and Grace, Barry and wife Kim, and their children, Briley Cotton and husband Matt, Turner Brasher, Reid Brasher, Tatum Brasher, and Kenley Brasher; and great granddaughter, Bess Mary Cotton; brother: Jimmie Brasher and wife Dottie; sister: Lou Nell Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Turner Brasher, Reid Brasher, Seth Brasher, and Matt Cotton. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Wiygul, Fred Baxter, Dr. Clyde Posey, Dr. Roy Newbold and Dr. J.V. Jones. The family wishes to thank St. Joseph's Hospice, Kyla Wise, Shonya Gipson and the nurses and staff at the War Veteran's Home. Memorials may be made to Northeast Louisiana War Veteran's Home, Recreation and Welfare Fund. Visitation will be held Saturday May 19, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.
