The community of Calhoun, LA lost one of its finest citizens. Ray Wayne Walters, Sr., 81, passed away on April 8, 2016, at home surrounded by his loved ones. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 11, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Calhoun under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Rev. Neil Everett and Rev. Larry Walters will be officiating. Interment will follow at Beulah Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Calhoun.Ray served his community for 30 years as Deputy Chief for the Ouachita Parish Fire Department. After retiring, he continued to serve his community by hosting “Christmas in Calhoun” to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Ray enjoyed working in his many gardens, telling jokes, playing his music at various nursing homes and spending time with his family and friends.Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan Walters; children, Wayne Walters and his wife, Terri, Keith Walters and his wife, Cheryl, Micki Horrell, and special friend Pepper Green; daughter-in-law, Debbie Walters; siblings Elizabeth “Babe” Felice and Annette Coker; grandkids Jeremy Walters and his wife, Mandi, Jenay Boyte and her husband, Duane, Jessica Rosson, and her husband Benji, Kasey Walters, Matt Walters, T.J. Horrell, wife Natalie, Dana Spence, husband Colby, Cassidy Hall, husband Heath, and Luke Walters; special friend Shauna and a host of great grandkids.Ray is preceded in death by his son, Danny Joe Walters; parents, Connie and Ida Walters; siblings, Leander Walters, Gilbert Walters, Mittie “'Sister” Williams, Layton Walters, and Hilton Walters.Pallbearers will be his grandsons Jeremy Walters, Matt Walters, Colby Spence, T.J. Horrell, Luke Walters, Duane Boyte, Benji Rosson, and Heath Hall.Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Oglesbee, the men and women of the Ouachita Parish Fire Department, and the deacons of First Baptist Church of Calhoun.In lieu of flowers, please donate to St Jude's Children's Hospital or First Baptist Church of Calhoun Building Fund.
