It is with great sadness that the family of Prentis Lee Barmore announces that he left this earth on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 71 years old after losing his battle with lung cancer. He enjoyed working in the oil field for Noble and progressed over the course of 15 years from a roughneck, to a driller, and finally finishing his career as a tool pusher. He then spent another 15 years serving the community as a Police Officer for the town of Dubach, Louisiana. He was a proud citizen of the town and enjoyed spending time within Dubach which led to his decision to run and win 4 consecutive terms totaling 24 years as a Lincoln Parish Ward 4 Constable. He enjoyed spending his spare time welding, hunting, cooking shows, and escorting his faithful companion, Prissy, around Dubach. He was in his element every minute he spent in his shop creating smokers, BBQ pits, deer stands, hog traps, and just generally playing around with metal. When deer season rolled around he would spend countless hours with his son, David, preparing the land and checking camera for all of their deer and laughing at everything else that tripped the shot. Lately, though, in the past years he was most known for driving around town with his fluffy, white dog, Prissy, who guarded him and his truck from any passerby or leaf that got too close to her Prentis. They were inseparable and she brought activity and joy to his retirement years.Prentis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He truly loved and was deeply proud of his family. There are many fond memories of our time with him from his rendition of George Jones White Lightening, his distinctive whistle down the hall, and him driving his grandchildren around the property on a small trailer behind his John Deer to collect blackberries with the promise of a blackberry pie (permitting any blackberries ever made it back home). His greatest joy was his family and he loved having them visit. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Edward Barmore; mother, Gay Foster; brother, Roy; and sisters, Evelyn, Debra, Barbara, Pauline, and Sue.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbra Colvin Barmore; his son, David Barmore; his daughter, Angie and Husband Cade Martin; 4 granddaughters, Shana Freeman, Stacie and husband Nathan Wyatt, Rebecca Becca and husband Michael Jones, and Dacie Dean; 2 grandsons, Lee and James Walker; 3 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Peyton, and Amelia; 4 brothers, Steve, James Edward Poochie, Paul, and Dewey Edward; 6 sisters, Becky, Sandra, Joanne, Gerdine, Linda, and Dorothy; and numerous nieces and nephews.Prentis Barmore service will be held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 2:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Hamilton Cemetery in Dubach. His service will be officiated by Mike Hilton and Henry Watts.
