Peter Beni

March 4, 1930 - July 2, 2020

Peter Beni of Haile Louisiana, formerly of Dallas Center and Winterset, Iowa, passed away on July 2, 2020, just 6 months after his beloved Betty passed away.

Peter Beni was born to Samuel and Christina (Hauer) Beni on March 4, 1930, in Torschau Austria-Hungary. After World War II the Beni family found themselves in a refugee camp in Vienna. In 1948, fate dealt Peter, his parents, and sister Elizabeth a chance at a new life in America through one of the founding fathers of Heifer Project. Four years later in 1952, the Beni family landed in New York and traveled to Dallas Center, Iowa to begin a new life.

Peter worked first for local farmers, then the railroad, before being drafted in 1953. He served in the US Army as a truck mechanic. When he wasn’t turning a wrench, he loved to fish and read books, especially Louis Lamour westerns.

On March 20, 1954 he married Betty Lou Miller. Peter is survived by their 4 children, James Beni (Kathy Cockrum), Jason Beni, JoDean Delperdang, and Jordan Beni (Judy Jones); 9 Grandchildren, Amber Beni (James Paul), Devin Beni (Lindsay Helmold), Perrin Taylor (Glenna) Elisha Taylor, Christina Taylor (Rob Cosner), Nathan Beni, Heather Delperdang (David Buttery), Megan Delperdang (Matt Rebik) and Jessica Delperdang; and 12 Great Grandchildren.

A private Remembrance of Life service will be held July 11, 2020 at his son Jordan’s home in Linville, Louisiana. The family will also hold a Remembrance of Life for both Peter and Betty on at a later date at Dallas Center, IA

I am so sadden to hear of Mr. Peter and Mrs.Betty’s passing. I was blessed to have made friends with them at Popeyes. They were so sweet to all of us and Mrs. Betty was his treasured sweetheart. I loved the gentlemanly way he cared for her . He always opened her door and pulled out her chair . He may have been born in Austria but he was a true southern gentleman . We enjoyed his sense of humor and you could tell he could be quiet mischievous. I have missed seeing them both since I sold Popeyes but I will treasure my memories of them. I pray that God’s grace and love lift all of the Beni Family up during this time of bereavement. Yours truly Debbie Branch

I was so saddened when I heard Mr. Beni's passing. I was honored to meet him and talk and I came to his home to do his health assessment . It was a pleasure to talk to him and I had lived in Carlisle Iowa for a few years. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
