Paul McElroy was a brother to me. The Smith family and McElroy family, for our entire youth, and then some, tread the streets of Monroe, through the cotton fields and main streets to each others homes. I also worked at James Machine works as did my Dad along with Bucky before they left to be with our Father and all the other Angels before them. I am sure the hands on heaven opened up to welcome Paul to his new home. A home of no more pain and suffering. To all of the McElroy's family and friends, I extend my heartfelt condolences and pray that you may find comfort in the memories and laughter that I so remember! God Bless you all! <3
In 1976 Paul was the main upperclassman that helped me find may way and transition to College football as a freshman. He was a great teammate and friend. I remember watching him from the stands when I was at Ouachita. We always bet 5 dollars on the Neville-Ouachita game. He usually won. My prayers go out to Paul's Family.
Dearest Susan and Mrs. McElroy,Please accept my condolences. I'll always remember Paul from the times I was on a sleep-over at your house as a little girl. He was so full of laughter and energy! You are so blessed to have had him in your lives and I realize nothing I say can make you feel better. If my hug was strong enough to take away the pain, I would start now and never stop. As Leo Buscaglia said, "I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought, and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love." I am here for you and your family, so please reach out if I can help in any way. Much love...

My sister and i babysat Samantha and Ellie when they were little girls at St. Pauls mothers day out. Mr. McElroy was a very caring, nurturing Father. I really admired the way he cared for his children. Girls, yall were really blessed to have him as your Dad. My prayers are with you at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the McElroy Family.
Joy….my heart reaches out to you and the girls….Losing the two loves of your lives!
Paul and I were neighbors growing up. We swam, rode bikes, threw any and every type of ball we could get our hands on and played every sport imaginable for hours on end and yes, Paul was the best cover guy even way back then. I will always miss those days and the buddy I shared them with.
To the entire McElroy Family, We would like to extend our deepest sympathy. We feel privileged to have known Paul, he was a very caring person. The Wiesemanns
Paul was the truest example of taking what God gave you and making the very best of it. 150 pounds (soaking wet) that had the heart of a lion (or Neville Tiger) and the hit of a freight train. He was the best of teammates and a genuine good friend. He lead by example. Rest in peace brother, you are truly missed by many.
Paul was such a great example for all of us. Prayers to Joy, Susan and the rest of the family.
Paul remains the toughest young man I ever knew. He was a tremendous hitter and was every bit a one-of-a-kind personality. Rarely did he suffer my conversation, but if anyone personified the spirit of what it took to turn NLU football from a longtime doormat to the champion it became, Paul was that player.
I was sadden to hear about the loss of Paul. I wish to honor Paul through the memories of our life’s path crossing at NLU. I can’t imagine my life without this shared journey at NLU. I have such fun memories of our time spent where we practiced under conditions one can only compare to a chain gang at Angola – unforgiving sun, breathless humidity and vampire mosquitoes. It was through these and many other shared challenges that we bonded and became good friends. Thanks Paul for allowing me to be a part of your life’s journey. Forever Teammates,Vic Minor
Paul was a wonderful caring person. Always a true gentleman since I met him when we were super young going to school together for years. He has touched many lives & will be missed by all. Prayers & Love to all of you.
Paul was a gutsy defensive back for NLU and enjoyed being on the same team with a guy that never quit. He was a great guy and will be missed. Love ya brother and God be with you.
I went to high school with Paul. He was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. He, along with his buddies taught me the love of football! He will be missed! My prayers go out to all of his family.
Paul was not only a great football player at Neville and NLU, he was a truly great guy to know and always kept it real. God bless him and his family.
