Funeral services for Patricia Chapman Evans, 68, of Ruston will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston. The family will receive friends at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mrs. Evans died on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at Willis-Knighten Hospital in Shreveport. She was born on July 17, 1938, in Jonesboro, LA, to Ralph and Sarah Chapman, Pat moved with her family to Palatka, FL, in 1951 and graduated from Palatka High School 1956. She attended college in Douglas, GA, where she met husband Gene Raymond ¨Hank Evans of Royston, GA. Pat and Hank were approaching their 50th wedding anniversary. An active member of The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer and Women of the Church, Pat was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader, a gift she gave to her children and grandchildren, and she helped start one of Ruston≠s first book clubs. Her gourmet cooking skills won her numerous prizes, and she was quick to share ¨secret family recipes with friends and family. Her coleslaw recipe is famous throughout the South. Pat loved playing the guitar and singing, writing poetry and fishing, and she had a special love of animals. She traveled extensively in the US and Europe, and loved New York City and Washington, DC, but her favorite place was at the beach with ¨sand between her toes. Pat was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Sandy Evans. She is survived by her husband Hank, her daughter Julie Evans Kyte and son-in-law John Kyte, of Ruston; her sister Nita Thomas, of Monroe, LA; grandsons Kyle Evans Carnahan, Jake and Robert Kyte, of Ruston; nieces Patti Thomas Harper and her husband Jerry of Shreveport, and Libbi Thomas of Monroe; nephews Joe Thomas and his wife Robin, of Monroe, Sam Thomas, III, and his wife Nancy of Clearwater, FL; and great nephews and nieces Laura Harper, Jay Harper, Sam Thomas IV, Patrick Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Emily Thomas and Joseph Thomas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston or to 4 Paws Rescue, 2208 Cooktown Road, Ruston, 71270, which serves to rescue the animals she loved so much.
