Patrice Hebert Delcambre was born on February 24, 1952, in Shreveport, LA, and was preceded in death by her parents John Hebert White Castle and Lucille Burnett Hebert Winn Parish. She left her family and friends on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. She graduated with honors from Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, in 1970. She received her bachelor's degree with honors in English Education; later her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors from ULM, and her MS in Nursing from Northwestern State University–following in her paternal grandmother's footsteps, who was a nurse in Shreveport. She was known in her professions–first as an English Teacher and Elementary Librarian, where she helped mold lives of many professionals; as an aerobics instructor at ULM; as a nurse, where she touched the lives of many; and as a bread, blanket and hat maker where she brought her expressions of culinary delights and art to many kindred spirits and loved ones. Anyone who ever sat at her table will remember well only being allowed to wear a baseball hat on birthdays. However, what is remembered most is her wonderful bread, her sweet, giving spirit, and her ability to show strength and hope in the face of adversity. She met her devoted husband and love of her life, Barry Delcambre, when as a graduate student he taught her Freshman Composition in college at ULM. They were happily married for 41 years, and he was her soulmate and eventually her devoted caretaker. They have two wonderful and successful sons: Living in Monroe is Jott Delcambre, married to Michael Ann Bryant, along with their children Olivia Marie 8 and Owen Michael 3; living in Fort Collins, CO, are younger son Jeremy Delcambre and his wife Gretchen Henry, from Houma, LA. Patrice only knew two other women who loved her daughters-in-law as much as she did—their own mothers. She is also survived by her only sibling, Pamela Hebert Sullivan of Longview, TX, along with brothers-in law Rudy and Randy Delcambre and sister-in-law Diana Delcambre, and wonderful nieces and nephews, godchildren, and cousins and loved ones from the Delcambre, Hebert, Thibeaux, Burnette, Adams, Prescott, Bryant, and family circles. She doted over her precious grandchildren who gave her wonderful hugs and instilled memories as they called her “Mai.” She leaves behind a loving family, a sisterhood of extended-family, including Robin Currier, Noel Hebert Prescott, Dr. Brenda Thomason, an extended family of close friends, and an adopted Brazilian family, Thiago and Jaqueline Chaves. All were blessed to have shared in the grace and strength she brought to this earth and into their lives. Special thanks goes to her art class friends for all the encouragement, notes and cards; our deep gratitude is extended to all of our faithful prayer warriors who lifted us up in prayer, the parishioners at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, and to those who assisted with her health care, particularly, Dr. William William and staff at MD Anderson and Dr. Coy Gammage and staff at Oncology Associates, and special thanks to Lil Breard and Nerissa Bryant for personal care, First Choice Hospice, and all of the dedicated sitters. Patrice's gentle, loving spirit could be seen in her love of animals, especially her grand dogs and in the kindness she showed as she ministered to many kindred spirits crossing her path. It could be felt in the delighted faces of those receiving the loaves of homemade bread she delivered or in the grateful eyes of those at MDA whose cold, bald heads– young and old–she lovingly and honorably placed her beautiful crocheted hats. Her passions were faith, hope and love, and she lived her life by those Principal Gifts. Her outside and inside beauty will be remembered by many, including by the angelic voices of Jeannie and Toni Adams. Pray for us Oh Holy Mother of God that her example of strength in suffering will bring peace to those who loved her, and that she will take her rightful place among the highest rank of Angels in Heaven.
