The Founding Pastor of Christ Church West Monroe, LA, Reverend W. R. Lowe, passed away on April 30, 2018, at the age of 90. W. R. was born in Clarks, LA on May 25, 1927. He attended school in Clarks before joining the Navy in June of 1944. After the war, he was employed by Brown Paper Mill until he entered full time ministry in June of 1956. W. R. Lowe married Norma Saucer on June 20, 1947. She was a very dedicated wife and served with him in his pastoral ministry for 70 years.Pastor Lowe, along with his wife Norma, pastored churches in Fort Bragg, CA, Dubach, LA,Louisville and Denver, CO, Amarillo, TX, and a second time in Dubach, LA. In February of 1969, he resigned from his second pastorate in Dubach to establish what is now Christ Church. He endeared himself to people with his warm smile, friendly embrace and complimentary style. Always the same, he loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.When Bro. Lowe turned 65, his son, Tom Lowe, succeeded him in the role of Senior Pastor while he remained as the Founding Pastor of the church until the time of his death. Bro. Lowe was associated with the United Theological Seminary for nine years where he received his Masters Degree in Theology and was awarded a Doctorate of Divinity for his teaching Hebrew and Greek in the Biblical Languages Department. He was affiliated with Destiny Ministries and Global Network of Christian Ministries.He was preceded in death by an infant daughter – Nina Joyce Lowe, and son – James Wendell Lowe.He is survived by his wife of 70 years – Norma Lowe and their three children: daughters – Alice Goldman, Linda Hendrix and her husband, David; daughter-in-law Sherri Lowe; son – Rev. Tom Lowe and his wife, Trina; eight grandchildren – Heath and Josh Goldman, Tafta and Tiffany Hendrix, Rev. Jeremy Lowe and his wife, Dana; Spencer Goldman Lowe and wife, Hannah; Rev. Ryan Lowe and his wife, Lindsey; Morgan Lowe Buxton and her husband, Scotty; and eight great grandchildren.Pallbearers will be his grandsons – Heath Goldman, Josh Goldman, Ryan Lowe, Jeremy Lowe, Spencer Lowe and Scotty Buxton.Honorary Pallbearers will be the Executive Board and Elders of Christ Church.Pastor W. R. Lowe will lie in state from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Christ Church, 208 Lincoln Street during which the family will receive friends. A celebration of his life will begin at 7:00 P.M. under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe with Pastors Tom, Ryan and Jeremy Lowe officiating.He will be interred in a private family graveside service on Friday, with Dr. Phillip Brassfield officiating at Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens in West Monroe, LA.
