Graveside services for Opal Honeycutt Newman will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home ~ West Monroe. Brother Kurt Auger will officiate and interment will follow afterwards.
Opal was born on February 11, 1926 in Manning, Texas and passed away on January 8, 2022 in Farmerville, Louisiana. She worked her way up from telephone operator to business manager with Southern Bell and AT&T. During WWII, Opal worked in an ordnance factory inspecting bombs used in the war. She was an avid bowler and fisherwoman. Opal also performed volunteer work with the telephone Pioneers. She retired after many years with Bell South in New Orleans. Opal and Robert lived out their final years in their home on Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Robert E. Newman; parents, Daniel Webster Honeycutt and Annie Mae Nichols Honeycutt; sisters, Edna Cook, Virgie Daigle, Claudia Jones, Vonceil Bryant, Lavon Burford, and Muriel Stringfellow.
Opal is survived by her son, Eric Michael Newman and wife Maritza; grandchildren, Nicholas, Christina, and Natalia; sister-in-law, Mildred Newman; numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family and friends.
