Memorial service for Ollie Dupree O. D. Westbrook will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel, 1200 Lamy Lane, Monroe, Louisiana, with Dr. Larry Stafford officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, La., under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe, La. O. D. was born in Marion, Louisiana September 13, 1921 and died peacefully at home in Monroe, Louisiana on Monday, April 16, 2012. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church, Monroe, Louisiana. He grew up in Marion, La., graduated from Marion High School and attended La. Tech University in Ruston, La., and served in The United States Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Wilson Westbrook, his parents Amma Lynn Edwards Westbrook and Mack Stancil Westbrook, son Richard Dale Westbrook, daughter-in-law Ann Westbrook and sister, Etta Taylor. Survived by and left to cherish his memory is his daughter Susan Westbrook, West Monroe, LA; granddaughter, Allie Verlander, Austin, TX, grandson, John Verlander and his wife, Edith, great grandson Thomas Verlander, Brooklyn, NY, brother Harry Wyatt and wife Lou of Monroe, La., sisters Lokile Peters, Monroe, LA, Stancil Savage, Lafayette, LA, and Boyce Ann Hulen, Swifton, AR, brother-in-law, Ed Wilson and wife, Wynona of Calhoun, LA, special nieces and nephews, and his long time assistant, Theresa Culp and her husband, Jerry. Mr. Westbrook was a respected man in both his personal and business life. He gave you his word with no straying. He provided a chance and a wonderful opportunity to many of his former employees who had the great potential to succeed in business and a new start in life. Just seeing his former employees succeed was his greatest reward. O. D. Westbrook is the last survivor of the Founding Directors of First American Bank & Trust of Louisiana, founded in 1964, of which is now Regions Bank. He served as a Director for 34 years retiring in March, 1998. In 1956 Mr. Westbrook became the Vice President for three retail lumber companies located in Monroe, West Monroe and Ferriday, Louisiana. Several other business were formed relating to the construction industry, building construction, millwork and plumbing company, of which he served in the capacity of President. In 1969 a parent company Standard Enterprises, Inc. was incorporated, at which time all companies were merged with Standard Enterprises, Inc., in order to expand in the single family construction, multi family construction, land development and management. Standard Enterprises, Inc., built throughout Louisiana, North Texas, South Ark., and Mississippi. Mr. Westbrook served as Chairman of the Board from 1969 through 1979, at which time the company was sold. He continued to serve on the Board of Directors of Standard Enterprises, Inc., until 1995, at which time he retired. Mr. Westbrook's family would like to express their gratitude to the employees of Senior Care Services for the excellent care during his illness, Trey, Mollie, Sabrina, Nancy, Michelle, Joyce, Pat and all caregivers. Pallbearers will be Grandson John Verlander, Michael D. Savage, Wade Wyatt, Larry M. Cooper, David W. Turrentine and George Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Anderson, Bud Crow, Bob West, Bob Rickett and R. C. McBroom. Mr. Westbrook will be missed dearly by his family and many friends.
