Funeral services for Nellie Joyce Smith Ambrose, age 88, of Ruston, LA. will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Cook Baptist Church in Ruston.   Dr. Joseph Fowler will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Beulah Cemetery in Calhoun, LA.   A visitation will precede the service at Cook Baptist Church from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.

Nellie was born on March 9, 1936, to Carroll and Ola Smith of Choudrant, LA.   She graduated Choudrant High School and married Emory Ray Ambrose also of Choudrant.  Emory and Nellie enjoyed traveling with the Caney Lake Sam’s Club for 38 years.  During their years of traveling, they were able to visit 49 of the 50 states missing only Minnesota.

Nellie was an expert seamstress and a housewife.  She was a member of Cook Baptist Church since 1964.

Nellie is preceded in death by her parents Carroll and Ola Smith, her husband Emory Ray Ambrose, son Danny Ambrose, infant daughter Cathy, grandson Blake Ambrose, and brother Joe Smith.

She is survived by her son Kenneth Ambrose and wife Kaye of Ruston, daughter Annette McIntosh and husband Jeff of Ruston; brother Wayne Smith and wife Barbara, brother James Smith, sister-in-law Joan Smith; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Luke Allen, Matt Pittman, Jason Ambrose, John Ambrose, Jack Ambrose, Max Milton, and Carter Allen.

Memorials may be made to Cook Baptist Church Children’s Ministry, or a charity of your choice.
