Nellie Elizabeth Griggs Turner, lovingly known as Nanny to everyone she met. She was born in Calhoun, LA on March 5, 1937 to Harvis “Pete” and Eunice Weems Griggs and left this earth on July 28, 2024 surrounded by her family. Nellie was a member of Paron Baptist Church of Sterlington, LA.
Nanny always believed a lady should look pretty no matter where she was going. Nanny showed love to anyone she met and she especially loved her family at Azalea Estates in Monroe, LA where you could find her playing Bingo, making crafts and getting pretty. She was tough and found purpose in helping others. People knew if they were having a bad day they could sit down and visit with her and she would tell them “sugar darling it is all going to be ok” as she patted them on the leg.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years John Wilson Turner; daughter, Debra Jean Turner Earl, son, Timothy Todd Turner; grandson, John Dylan Turner and fur baby, Bella.
Those left to cherish her memories granddaughter, Allison Earl Williamson and husband, Arthur “Ottie” Williamson of Monroe, LA and great grandson, Arthur Joseph “AJ” Williamson.
Pallbearers will be Gary Tubbs, Hank Snell, Terry Day, Paul Mitchell, AJ Williamson and Joe Wheeler.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Azalea Estates for loving Nanny and Elara Care Hospice. Nanny was one of a kind and will truly be missed.
