Evalyn Nadine Potts, age 101, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2024, in her home in Monroe, Louisiana. Nadine was born March 6, 1923, in Devon, Kansas, to Roy Johnson and Beulah Viola (Shelton) Johnson.
Nadine graduated from Iola High School and attended Junior College in Iola. Nadine and Thurman I. Potts (her Marine) were married on July 1, 1945. Thurman passed away March 24, 2017.
Nadine faithfully followed her husband, Thurman, after a 20-year career as an architect in South Dakota to Monroe, Louisiana where they began a new adventure in Thurman’s pursuit of starting the School of Construction Management at ULM. Nadine began her career in Louisiana as the secretary for St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She liked to say that she trained at least 8 ministers before her retirement in 1987.
Nadine enjoyed reading, knitting, cross stitch, crossword puzzles and card games. Together, their love of travel and adventure took them all over the country. She loved spending time with her family and friends to whom she was known as “Grandmother”.
Nadine is preceded in death by her parents, Beulah and Roy Johnson, her husband, Thurman, son, Dan, sons-in-law, Kenny Brown and MikeBee, her grandson, Christopher Potts, and her sister, Dorothy Saxton.
Nadine is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Roberts of Ruston, LA, Jane Brown and Diane Bee of Monroe. Nadine is also survived by six grandchildren, Susan Hopkins (Jeff), Amy Childress (Chris), Andrew Brown (Kathy), Emily Folk (Trey), Casey Potts and Cameron Potts, eleven great grandchildren and two great greatgrandchildren.Nadine is also survived by her niece, Cathy Cline, her nephew, Don Saxton and numerous Kansas cousins.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, followed by a memorial service at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Monroe, LA with Pastor Ben McGehee officiating. A private family inurnment will precede the service at St. Paul’s Columbarium.
The family would like to thank Personal Homecare caregivers Wanda Bourne, Susie Pique and Wanda Peden, for the excellent and loving care they gave our Mother and Grandmother and allowing her to remain in her home all these years.
