Claudine and I have cherished the friendship with Myrtis and Virgil for about 53 years. They have been very active in our community, in their church, and in State Government, and Louisiana Tech. May the family have the Strength that is from our Heavenly Father in the days (and months) to come. Love, Jon Barker

We were saddened to learn of the death of Myrtis Orr, a friend for many decades (since August 1969). She and her husband Virgil were constant supporters of all things Ruston and the State of Louisiana. Best wishes to all who remain to cherish her memory. Love, Claudine & Jon Barker

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Orr. I still remember my first day in her class, and I've shared this story many times with my students. I was the first one to arrive on the first day of school. I was so scared and very nervous, and she could obviously tell. She asked me if I would like to feed the fish in her classroom. I jumped at the chance and immediately forgot about my nerves and fear. Looking back, I realize how caring and nurturing she was with many of her students and me. I don't remember all of the details of my kindergarten experience, but what stuck with me was the care she took in making sure we learned and were good citizens of the school community. Mrs. Orr made a significant impact on my life, and the lives of so many, and I am truly sad to hear of her death.
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

To the Orr Family --- Even to this day, some 45-ish years after having Mrs. Orr as my kindergarten teacher (twice, actually) I have some of the most vivid and loving memories of her. She touched so many children in so many ways and was truly a blessing. I probably wasn't the easiest child in kindergarten (at least from the stories I have been told), but I do recall Mrs. Orr being loving, tender, and patient. I will never forget the touch she had on my life.

I am so very sorry to hear this. Though Myrtis and Lavena were cousins of my dad, both my parents (EH and Madge Chandler) considered them (and husbands Dr Orr and Mr. Lann) close friends. I know they all are rejoicing together in heaven. My prayers are with you all.
