Neal Stuart Mathis was born on August 26, 1958, and peacefully passed away in his home on June 11, 2025. He was born in Houston, Texas, to Louie Edmund and Fabris Juanita Mathis.
Our Daddy was the funniest man we ever knew. His sense of humor was one of a kind and would brighten any room. When we were kids, he worked from home and would take breaks throughout the day to spend time with us, most of the time it was to play video games. He was truly the best Dad, the kind of Dad that would warm our sheets with a hair dryer before we climbed in for bed. He was the BEST cook, and I’d pay a million dollars to eat his ribs again. Music was a passion of his, and we have many memories of watching him play guitar at home and in the band. We have a billion memories of movies with him at home and the theater, sometimes taking us to see the same movie twice if we really loved it. Those of you who knew him know what a funny, laid-back, and easy-going man he was. He loved all 4 of his grandchildren and wanted more than anything to share his wisdom of the world with them. He could tell you any and everything about our family’s lineage and took pride in it.
Neal was preceded in death by his mother, Fabris Juanita Littleton; father, Lou Mathis; and stepmother, Mary Kay Mathis.
Neal is survived by his children, Taylor Mathis (Julia) and Sarah Mathis; four grandchildren, Joshua Mathis, Hartlynn Mathis, Creed Mathis, and Caroline Hill; siblings, Bonner Mathis (Karla) and Keith Mathis; and other cherished family and friends.
Neal’s absence leaves a void in the lives of those who loved him, but his legacy of love and laughter will live on. The family appreciates the prayers during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Bartlett, Tennessee, for close family and friends.
