I knew Mark from working with him in the past. We were co-workers and turned into really good friends. We would speak on the telephone for hours at a time, exchanging stories about our animals (he was an advent pet lover) and encouraging one another. He was a strong man with such a great sense of humor. Mark, I will really miss you; this earth has lost a good one.

Bless you Mark for your compassion and love given to the fur babies in your life. There is a special place in my heart for you. Thank you for inspiring me and others to save the helpless. Your love and passion will carry on.

Mark and I were raised together at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Monroe, La. From a early age we were friends, many, many vacation bible schools, bible drills, youth trips together. As we got out of school and getting our own lives we lost touch. But a few years ago we reconnected over Facebook. We would laugh and talk about a trip to Gloretia or to the park. Sometimes we would talk about a fight or fuss we might have had and that we were more like brothers and sisters growing up. But if someone else wanted to fight or talk about one of the Walkers or the Tharps you better watch out because then you had 7 kids after you. LOL. I am so thankful for our parents raising us together as a church family. I look back at times and I can never remember a time our parents weren't as active as we were with our church. I pray for peace and understand for Aunt Net and family. That all the wonderful memories and turn them in to treasures and hold on them until we are reunited with Mark. Oh what a day that will be. Love you Walker Family, I will see you soon.

Mark and I reconnected after almost 30 years, and not only were we cousins, but great friends. We chatted often about family, old friends, and our love of animals. I truly admired his passion for animal rights. His cats were his life, and I know they will miss him terribly. Rest in Peace, Mark. We will meet again one day!

Mark and I volunteered on the same shifts quite a few times at the old shelter. It was always a pleasure to work and talk with him. After we moved to the new shelter, I didn't get to see him as much. But I always followed his comments on facebook. His love of animals came through loud and clear. And he had a lot of common sense ideas when solutions were requested. I loved his stories about the process of saving one of his cats (I think it was Macie). Mark was a very fine person, kind to everyone, a great listener and very compassionate. He will be greatly missed.
Peace of mind is a call away. We're here when you need us most.

I have so very much to thank Mark for;His kindness, understanding, helpfulness & humour are but the tip of his Compassionate Nature!Mark was a true friend to many but often overlooked his own needs! As Flores has said it took several of his friends to get Mark to accept the help he would so freely give or advise others to take!Mark was both Complex & full of Love!Love for Others!Love for Nature!Love for Cats!Mark's love for Cats is known the World over!Whereas most folk talk about "Houses, Holidays, Boats & Cars" should they ever win a Fortune; Mark talked about No Kill Sanctuarys & TNR programmes! We all loved Mark's kindness & self sacrificial service to Cats & his friends! We all became better people from knowing him!I miss you Mark Alan Walker & pray that Heaven is full of Cats for you to Love!!

Mark had the most positive outlook on life of anyone I know. Here is what he said on Thanksgiving 2012 : " As this Thanksgiving day comes to a close I would like to say I'm thankful for my family who worried about me for the past 2 days during my hospital stay. I'm thankful for my friends who offered to take care of my animals or anything else. I'm thankful to have 2 beautiful animals that haven't left my side since I got home, they walk on 4 legs but they're my kids. Most of all I'm thankful that I live in a country where we have the freedom to enjoy family, friends & animals and not have to be afraid of bombs destroying our homes & families. We can't complain, we live in the greatest country in the world."

A sweet, gentle soul and a friend to any animal in need. Houston, Texas feels a great loss.
Flores left a message on July 14, 2014:
I met Mark through facebook somewhere late 2012, we were both committed to helping animals (in his case cats) at a given time one of his cats had to have expensive treatments and he had no money to get it done. I believe his country failed him horribly (but that is my opinion). I offered to start a fundraiser for his cat to be able to pay for the medical expenses. It then showed how loved Mark was, we collected way more money than was needed and were able to get the treatments done. Although life dealt him bad cards he was always in good spirit and he never complained. It had been a privilege and great honour to have known Mark.
