Glenn was born April 14, 1940 in Monroe, Louisiana and passed away on March 6, 2020 in Monroe. He graduated from Neville High School in 1959, with many stories about his bus driving experiences and good times! Glenn served 4 years in the Louisiana National Guard Reserve. After graduation, he began his working career as a lineman with Louisiana Power & Light. Glenn moved from Bastrop to Baton Rouge around 1969 and began working for Gulf States Utilities until the mid 70’s. He then moved to Seattle, Washington, where he lived over a decade, spending much of his time with his sister, Anna and her family while working in the security business. Glenn moved back to Monroe in 1987, when his first grandchild, Christine was born. He worked for and retired from Sears and remained in Monroe until his death.
Glenn enjoyed golf, deer hunting and played a mean hand of poker! He loved hunting at “the camp” in south Louisiana with his brothers, sons, and nephews! Glenn also enjoyed a couple of fishing trips with his daughter and sons. He spent more time in the boat, teasing us about alligators rather than reeling in the fish. At “the camp” he helped out with the cooking and storytelling! One of his favorite pastimes was watching his grandson, Taylor growing up playing baseball and later playing football at his alma mater, Neville High School. The Neville High School Tigers won two state championships back to back while Taylor played for them and Pawpaw was his biggest fan! Glenn had a wonderful sense of humor, a kind heart and will be dearly missed! He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Madison Jr. and Murl Edna Stokes; two brothers, Armand Stokes and Leon Stokes.
Glenn is survived by his twin brother, Lynn and his wife, Georgia of Baton Rouge; sister, Anna McCausland Browning of Seattle, Washington; sister-in-law, Jean Stokes of Monroe; three children, Kim Stokes of Monroe, Ike Stokes, Jr. and wife, Connie of Monroe, Heath Stokes and wife, Loretta of Hawesville, Kentucky; grandson, Taylor Stokes and friend, Abi Antis of Monroe; granddaughters, Christine Monk and husband Michael and Mary Ann Stokes, both of Monroe, Shelby Stokes and Falyn Stokes, both of Hawesville, Kentucky; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Monk of Monroe; many other cherished family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Stokes and Kent Stokes.
