Funeral services for Elmer L. Powell, 83, of Monroe will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 21, 2015 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, 1200 Lamy Lane, Monroe, with Reverend John Moden officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Gardens under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.Mr. Powell passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 at his residence, following a short illness and surrounded by his family. Elmer, the third of six siblings, was born August 18, 1931 in Muncie, Indiana to Rexal V. Powell and Anna Kiser Powell. Mr. Powell was a member of Eastside Church of God for 57 years, serving in many capacities including Adult Sunday school teacher and on the Board of Trustees. He worked in the Monroe area for 45 years installing floor coverings, acoustic and metal grid ceilings and plastic laminate counter tops for the J. E. Dupuy Company. Prior to his work experience, he proudly served his country as a crewman aboard the USS Kleinsmith during the Korean conflict. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Donald R Powell. \tSurvivors include his wife of 57 years, Irene Beebe Powell; son, Rodney Powell and wife Tamara, of Freeport, IL, and their children, Kristin Powell, Kellyn Powell, and Sean Powell and wife Kristyn, and their son Burke; son, Richard Powell and wife Joy of Monroe and their children, Jody Powell, Ellie Hilton and husband Lance, and Anna Powell ; daughter, Kim Stivers and husband Tommy of Calhoun; and daughter Kerri Smith and husband Merrill of Tulsa, OK, and their children,Colton Smith, Chase Smith and Cooper Smith; one brother, Charles Powell and wife Faye of Hot Springs, AR and three sisters; Mart Moden and husband Bill of Oak Grove, LA; Wanda Green of Muncie, IN; and Pat Altic and husband Lemoyne of Muncie, IN; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Pallbearers will be Sean Powell, Lance Hilton, Jim Woolums, Quinon Beebe, William Beebe, Lukas Beebe, Caleb Beebe and Colton Smith. Honorary pallbearers are J. E. (Butch) Dupuy, Roy Neal Dosher and J. R.
