Mona Gay Ward Garris went home to be with the Lord on February 2, 2021, at the age of 80, after a brief illness. Left behind to cherish her memories are her children, Billy Garris, Wanda Royal and husband Randy, Kenny Garris and wife Gina, Tom Garris and wife Kylie, and Mary Garris all of Farmerville, her grandchildren, Richard Royal of Farmerville, Amy Myers and husband Caleb of Wichita Falls, Texas, Hayden, Will, Anna, Emma, Rue, Wesley, Jesse, and Drew Garris, and sisters-in-law, Betty Garris, Ruby Rogers, and Rosa Aulds, all of Farmerville, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends Lorraine and Gerry Courtney, Barbara and Richard Strahan.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Ellen Ward and her husband of 44 years, William Errol “Buddy” Garris.
Mona Gay Ward Garris was born on July 22, 1940 in Spearsville, Louisiana and graduated from Farmerville High School in 1958. She was an active member of Enterprise Baptist Church holding several positions from Sunday school teacher to Music director. She retired from the Union Parish School System after serving as a teacher’s aide and secretary. After finding retirement was not enough, she worked at Mom’s Helper Daycare and the Union Parish Chamber of Commerce.
She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, and grandmother, dedicated to her church, her family, and serving the Lord. She loved music, gardening, fishing, spending time with family and friends, reading her Bible and sharing her faith with others.
As a celebration of life for Mona, visitation will be held Friday, February 5th, 2021 from 5 pm till 7 pm with funeral services starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kilpatrick’s Funeral Home of Farmerville with Bro. Aleck Nyegaard, officiating. Burial will follow in the Enterprise Cemetery with Bro. JL Williams officiating at graveside.
Pallbearers will be Billy, Kenny, Tom, Hayden, and Will Garris, and Jay Bryan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Gideons International, St Jude’s, or American Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Union General Hospital and Glenwood Regional Medical Center for their care and dedication.
