Funeral services for Minnie Ola Davis Spurlock, 91, of West Monroe will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 12, 2012, in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Rev. Woods Watson will be officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Cemetery of Choudrant under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Minnie Ola was a resident of West Monroe since the end of World War II. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, J.R. Spurlock, and a daughter, Mary Annette Spurlock Pinion. During World War II, Minnie Ola served as a mail carrier, but for the rest of her life, she was a mother and homemaker. She knew how to make a home a safe refuge and how to be the perfect hostess. Sewing, quilting, needle pointing, and making clothes for her three daughters were also among Minnie Ola's many talents. Minnie Ola also loved and cherished her nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Cooking for them was one of her greatest pleasures, and they all recall her delicious roast with rice and gravy. Minnie Ola leaves behind two daughters Kathy Spurlock Leonard and Cynthia Spurlock Batley, and a son-in-law Rocky Batley, who will miss her so much. Although all of Minnie Ola's eight siblings are deceased, she has sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law who will also mourn her passing. Pallbearers are Rocky Batley, Jason Leonard, Rob Sale, Michael Brown, Ray Lewis and Wes Tichenor. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
